Our society, especially in Nigeria think rape is a joke.
It takes a very strong person to get raped by a person and move on with life like nothing ever happened, not to talk about being raped by a couple of people, the nightmares, the depression and the worthlessness the victim feels.
Rape is a type of sexual assault usually involving Sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual penetration, perpetrated against a person without that person’s consent. The act may be carried out by physical force, COERCION, abuse of authority or against a person who is incapable of valid consent, such as one who is unconscious, incapacitated, or below the LEGAL AGE OF CONSENT.
Most rape victims find it difficult to talk about their ordeal because they feel they will get blamed with the way police and law operates in Nigeria.
Barrister Funmi Falana, a Lagos-based lawyer and public commentator, in an article to mark the 2013 International Women’s Day, stated that Nigeria’s Constitution is biased against women.She said: “By virtue of section 353 of the Criminal Code Act, any person who unlawfully and indecently assaults any male person is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for three years. But Section 360 of the Act regards indecent assault of a woman, a misdemeanor, which attracts a punishment of two years imprisonment.
That’s just the law, lets talk about the judgement people pass on the victim, the blames, name calling and many others. Major reason most victims will just remain silent and not speak up for themselves because of the way they are perceived by the society. If you have never been raped and you have never had a personal encounter with a victim, please think about what you will want to say about such cases because you were not there when it happened.
For people that rape kids, i have no words for you.
As for people that lie about being raped to get attention, you are the reason rape victims do not speak up, you are the crack in the wall and the most evil.
The sugabelly story stings so much, the story is mind boggling, i cannot imagine what she has gone through, but only God knows the truth. If you have never heard about the story, google is your friend.
Before you open your mouth to say something silly about a victim, remember that it can happen to your sister, girlfriend, mother or brother.

This is a really big issue that has been locked up so often. The point is, I think everyone should always be conscious even as adults like how you eat or drink outside to avoid getting drugged, following strangers to undisclosed places etc. Then for kids, caution them about gifts, wrong friends and neighbors who behave oddly (like always at home alone or behaving strangely most times in a very rude manner to fellow adults etc)
