Being a woman with disabilities doesn’t mean you cannot be beautiful and Katie Meade is living proof.
Katie, 32, from Iowa, was recently named as the new ambassador of hair and beauty brand Beauty & Pin-Ups, becoming the first beauty model to have Down syndrome.
Beauty & Pin-ups is known for it’s long-time partnership with Best Buddies International, an association dedicated to ending social, physical and economic isolation of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, such as Down syndrome.
Katie is a young woman from Des Moines, Iowa, who has never let her disabilities hold her back. Despite udergoing two open heart surgeries and three thoracotomies in the first three years of her life, she managed to take part in the Special Olympics when she was only 8. Swimming & track and field were her sports and she even won a Gold Medal for the Balance Beam.
After a few years traveling the world, training her swim team, meeting with celebrities on tour, Katie can now call herself a model, thanks to the guys at Beauty & Pin-Ups.
The brand has just launched a new product in their Fearless line-up and has included Katie on the packaging, which is totally fitting since no one shows fearlessness quite as good as her. Way to go, Katie!
