What exactly is role of the military in Nigeria? The primary purpose of the Nigerian military is to defend their nation from external attack and deter or attack would-be enemies.
So when did the average Nigerian trying to cast his/her vote become an external attack or enemies of the state?
The task of the military is usually defined as defence of the state and its citizens, and the prosecution of war against another state. The military may also have additional sanctioned and non-sanctioned functions within a society, including, the promotion of a political agenda, (does this mean they are allowed to support political Godfathers against the very people they sweared to protect ?)protecting corporate economic interests, internal population control, construction, emergency services, social ceremonies, and guarding important areas.
Before the election, the Nigerian military authority cautioned its personnel against taking actions that will go against practising their constitutional role in the 2019 general elections.
However, during the election there were multiple reports with video evidence of the military’s involvement in the 2019 general election, not to talk of the role the police played in the election.
The military has also denied their involvement in the election & they claim that the men in military uniform are thugs impersonating military officials. How do we believe this? when we have seen military officials being used against the average civilian.
The Nigerian armed forces needs a complete over haul, the use & abuse of the military by men of power needs to STOP.
Nigeria is like a company that is running on its reserve fund & very soon, it will be depleted.
I wonder what becomes of Nigeria at that point….
